Snow Day

Tom and I took Slade sledding on Sunday and we had a blast. It took a little coaxing to get Slade interested at first but since Mommy and Daddy were having so much fun and felt a little stupid sledding in our backyard without a kid, we did our best to get him use to the snow.

Here are a few pictures of Slade's first Snow Day.

Mommy's Turn

I thought I would post a video of Slade pushing me around on his lightening McQueen truck...We teach fairness in our house. It is only fair that I get a turn on the toys too, after all that is why Tom and I had children, for the toys.

Thanksgiving Take 2

Well what can I say about the Hajek Thanksgiving....if I had one word it would be DRAMA. I guess we were able to do what Thanksgiving was meant for, spending time with family...Apparently it doesn't matter where you spend the time as long as you are together. Well, we spent most of our time in the hospital with my mom. She is feeling much better now (or at least for the next 6 months until she has another bowl obstrucion). Anyway, all the kids had a great time with each other. Slade loved to hang out with his cousin Kingsley....Even though she didn't like him. Kingsley is 5 1/2 months older than Slade but he has a good 6lbs on her. Slade is into this hugging and kissing mood right now and wanted to be around poor Kingsley any chance he could get. She, on the other hand would run from him every chance she good get. I can't imagine what was going through her head when she saw my chunky monkey running at her with drool hanging out of his mouth and snot out his nose! Poor Kingsley. Slade then moved on to his cousin Walker who actually thought Slade was pretty cool for a young guy. Walker even wrapped all of his trains up to give to Slade for Christmas...How Sweet is that boy.

Here are a few pictures

Turkey Day Take 1

Tader had his first Thanksgiving dinner last Saturday with the Buckheister-Dahm family. He had a great time and loved Marla's turkey!!! Tader got to spend time with great-grandma and great-grandpa Dahm (J.B. is having his 90th birthday December 6th - Happy Birthday).

I thought I would share some pictures of our day.

First Hair Cut

Slade had his first hair cut on Sunday. I was nervous that he would cry and scream the entire time but he LOVED it. I took him to Whipper Snippers. It is a hair salon for little kids and they tailor to children of all ages. Slade was able to sit in a transformer car and watch cartoons the entire time. He loved it and never fussed once. I would recommend this place to anyone with children.

Below is some pictures and a photoshow of his first haircut.

Lions, Tigers and Lobsters??? Oh MY

Slade got to enjoy his fist Halloween. He had a blast going to both sets of grandparents and handing out candy with Mommy. He had a little buddy stop by. I have attached a photoshow of the boys in their costumes.

Da-Do

I apologize guys that I have been so poor at blogging. We have either been very busy, sick or just to lazy to write. Slade has learned a few new things. He has started saying Da-do a lot and at first we thought that it was just another version of Dad but then he seems to only say Da-do when he is around a doggie. Apparently Da-do means doggie. He also says nigh-nigh everynight when he is ready for bed. He learned to crawl about 3 weeks ago....I know it was a little late but to make up for it he was taking about 6-7 steps at a time about 4 or 5 weeks ago and he is now full out walking. I have attached a video of him walking. Sorry that I don't sound to excited but I am sick in the video.

5 reason why I don't own a dog

Most of you all know that Tom and I don't own a puppy. I know that Tader would love one and we are bad parents for not getting him a doggy but I don't want or need the extra responsibility. Here are the top 5 reasons we don't own a puppy.

#5 - You have to take them for walks
#4 - They want to crawl in bed with you
#3 - They rub their wet nose on you
#2 - They are always spitting or throwing up
#1 - They poop on your couch
I am sure you all want to know where I am going with this. Now the top 5 reasons why children are like puppies

#5 - You GET to take them on walks
#4 - They want to crawl in bed with you
#3 - They constantly rub their snotty nose on you
#2 - they are always spitting up

And the #1 REASON.......Wait for it........Wait for it.

#1 THEY POOP ON YOUR COUCH

I don't know how this happened but this is what was waiting for me when I got home from work. Yes it sat there all day long! I think Tom was traumatized by the poop on him that this little bugger went unrecognized.

I go walking after Midnight

Tader had a wonderful first Labor Day. He was able to see both sets of great-grandparents this weekend. He visited with Great-Grandma and Grandpa Hajek on Sunday and Great-Grandma and Grandpa Dahm on Monday. Slade also learned a new trick this week. I posted a video of him taking about 4 steps yesterday (8 months). He was been standing on his own and taking a few steps.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Here is a video of him eating chicken and rice....He loves it.

Trust the MIDAS Touch

I just thought I would share this story with all of you. Once again this has nothing to do with Tader but worth sharing. About 3 weeks ago I needed to bring my car into Midas to get the brakes fixed. Well 4 days and $900 later I got my car home. The next morning I noticed that my car was leaking oil out of the left rear brake so I called Midas, they said that they had put an O-ring on incorrectly and would need the car for 1 more day. Again I brought my car in for an entire day but once again when I got my car home it was still leaking out of the same back brake. I told them that they could not have my car an entire day and give me a time that it could be looked at and I would bring it. I brought it in 2 weeks ago at 1:30pm the time they told me was saved to look at my car. I ended up sitting in the waiting room 2 hours while my car sat in the exact same place that I had originally parked it. Finally 2.5 hours and a lot of yelling later they were ready to look at my car. It took them 5 minutes to determine that yet again they screwed up and could not fix it b/c they needed to order parts. By this time I am fuming. Being of strong Hajek blood and not allowing to be screwed over by Midas I escalated my complaints to the regional director of Midas. He assured me that they would take care of my car without anymore hassle to me. He told me that they would pick up my car Monday 8/18/08 morning @ 8:30am from AEGON and bring it back to me in tip-top condition. 8:30 rolled around then 9:30 then 11:00 and I eventually ended up calling them. When they told me that they couldn't get my car in today so I gave them two options, "Give me a rental car to drive while they fix it or give me the full refund for the Brake job." They took the rental car option. Okay, I thought I could live with this. The whole day I was thinking, this might be cool, I might be able to drive a Lexus, BMW....Maybe even a Mercedes. I would take the Tader and drive around town in my new digs showing off to the world that I was the women who got the best of Midas. I would open the windows, let my hair blow in the wind, sporting my shades, maybe even be able to open the sun roof....The anticipation was killing me!!! Well at 4:00 when I left work to see what shiny car was waiting for me in the parking lot of AEGON (thinking "I hope my friends see me in this car...boy wont they be jealous) I noticed this...........................................

The pedophile mobile

I am almost certain I have seen this van on Datelines 'To catch a predator'. I am sure Chris Hansen (the host) is following me around town with a camera waiting for me to make my next move. BTW if I wanted to make my next move I am sure I could...This car comes standard with Curtains over the windows and check out the back....Yes that is Carpet, apparently to patch any spots that might come about during an abduction, A blanket and oh yes the inevitable roll of duck tape.....Not a joke, Not a plant, there was really a roll of duck tape in the back of this car. Lastly for all the clean up, there is a handheld Dustbuster! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!

Tader standing tall

I just thought I would share this picture of Tader with my uncle Jon. Apparently there is a picture floating around of my grandfather doing this to my dad.....I don't think that my grandmother was seen in that picture standing in the background fearful that her baby was going to fall.

Anyway....Thanks Jon, I love the picture.

Got Stuffed Animals?

Well I have writen in awhile but we have been pretty busy lately. I have attached a slideshow for you all to see. The outdoor pictures (with hat) were taken over the 4th of July....We took Tader Camping and well we can say that he is the happiest little camper there was (literally). He is getting so big and learning new things everyday. He constantly says Da-da but of course has yet to learn Ma-ma. At his 6month appointment he was in the 95% for Height, Weight and Head Circumference (Yes, still a big boy).
Here are two slides shows from the last two months

Michael Phelps here I come

Tader is ready for teh 2008 Olympics in Beijing! I think he could give Phelps a run for his money....Tader might have to work on his abs a little bit but he seems to have the rest down. He loved the water. Here is a little video.

Two Front Teeth

I don't have a lot to tell you so I thought I would show you a picture of Tader's two front teeth. The first tooth broke through on 6/10/08 and the second just broke through this week!

WANTED: Midwife with experience

Well, I had a weekend to remember. Sorry, this story isn't about the Tader but TRUST ME it deserves a spot on the Blog.............
A new employee started working at AEGON about 6 weeks ago, when she arrived we realized that she was 33 weeks pregnant. Her entire family lives in Nigeria and she doesn't know a single person in CR. I have literally had 4 conversations with this women consisting of about 20 minutes each time. Until Sunday I really had no clue what kind of impression I had on this woman nor did I really even think about it....She was a co-worker, end of story, or so I thought.
On Sunday Morning around 3am my phone starts ringing, I did not recognize the number therefore I didn't answer it the first 2 times. The third time my phone rang I thought someone must want to talk to me. I pick up the phone and on the other line is this woman (Toyin). She was in labor and didn't know what to do. Of course, half asleep I ask for her address, tell Tom that I am leaving and head out the door. When I got to her apartment complex she was sitting in her car, hospital bag and car seat ready to go. As I start driving down I-380 I begin to time her contractions which are 3 minutes apart. Not wanting to deliver this baby on the Interstate I start driving 90 miles an hour and run every red light we came too. As we arrived at the hospital entrance for a brief moment I though "Good Luck Toyin, let me know if it is a boy or a girl."
No....I didn't have the heart to drop her off and leave her so I continued into the hospital, tons of thoughts going through my head. Labor and delivery take a long time and I am going to be sitting in the waiting room all day long, I should have brought a book or a magazine. Maybe I will buy one in the gift shop.
After they check her in, the nurse turns to me and says
Nurse: "Are you her support person"
30 seconds of silence b/c I was silently screaming
Me: "um...well...we work together!
Nurse "Are you going to be here for labor and delivery?
Me: Well I will wait outside for the delivery
Nurse: OH NO YOU WON'T (yelling like I was 10 yrs old and stupid) You need to be there for her, she needs a familiar face after she delivers
More silent screaming for 30 seconds
Silent crying for about 30 seconds
a little light headed...almost passing out.
Me: uh.........
The nurse then finished checking Toyin in and took both of us to the room where she was to deliver. 2 hours later Toyin was ready to start pushing. I turned to Toyin and said "Well I think I am going to wait in the hall, are you Okay with that? She wasn't, she wanted me to stay! OMG, OMG, OMG!!! So I stayed and 1.5 hours of pushing......Baby still wasn't out. Maybe it was because I wasn't holding her legs up high enough, maybe I wasn't doing a good enough job of keeping her feet in the stirrups.....OH YA....People, you can't make this stuff up. I was holding the legs of a 208 lb NAKED woman whom I recently met while she was trying to push out her baby!!! Sooo After 1.5 hours of her pushing and me wanting to go take a very long shower with bleach, the Dr said that she would need an emergency C-Section. Once again Toyin wanted me in the OR. I about had a heart attack. Surely someone could tell that I was very uncomfortable with this, surely the nurses could see me scratching my eyeballs out and would tell Toyin that she would be fine in the OR herself. Nope so I continued down the hall to the OR with what I can only assume everyone thought was my Nigerian love slave giving birth to our baby!
Well after the 30 minute C-section we had a little boy named David Amusan, 7lbs 14 oz and 21 inches long. Oh and to top it all off, every time this little boy looks at his birth certificate he is going to wonder who the heck this Dawn Buckheister was????? Yes, my name is listed as a witness on the birth certificate!!

For the forgiveness of sins

We finally had The Tader baptized this weekend. It ended up being a beautiful day and Tader was a perfect angel for the mass and baptism despite the fact that we interrupted his afternoon nap and feeding and to get to the church. Tom and I tried letting him nap as long as possible before getting him dressed in his first 3 piece suit and since we were 10 minutes late for the mass I am going to assume that we let him sleep about 10 minutes to long. I guess I underestimated the time it took to get everyone dressed for the occasion. My mom had warned me all week to try Tader's suit on him prior to the baptism for fear of it not fitting. Well she was correct. I guess I assumed that since I have a 5 month old son and a 9 month old suit that the only problem we would encounter was the suit possibly being a little big for him....Not the case when you have a 5 month old chubby monster. We couldn't get his shirt buttoned in order to put the tie on him and as all mother's know, the tie is the most important part. We ended up putting a tie extender on his top button and that seemed to do the trick for the most part.

The Blame Game

I thought I would write a blog letting all of you know that Tader was naughty this week. He is to blame for breaking his first bone. I know what you are all thinking...."how could a 5 month old baby break a bone?" "What bad parents Dawn and Tom are for letting something like this happen". Well to ease every one's mind about my parenting abilities I must tell you that Tader didn't break his own bone, instead he broke Grandma Bobbi's pinky toe. Grandma was over on Wednesday night helping me hang pictures throughout my house and with all of the chaos that was going on, I guess Tader forgot to put his toys away. This whole situation made me realize how difficult parenting is. Tader says that Grandma put his bouncy in the middle of the room and Grandma says that Tader did it. As a parent I don't know who to believe. One is blaming the other and I have yet to get a consistent story between the two. I don't know if it is mother's instinct or what but something deep down inside of me tells me that Tader didn't put the bouncy there.... I could be wrong, he could have lifted his chubby butt out of the bouncy, moved it to the middle of the room then climbed into his walker without anyone realizing. Maybe Grandma made him mad when I wasn't looking. Maybe he thought "lets see how Grandma likes someone messing with her?" Regardless of who's fault it is, they both made up and Grandma was brave enough to come back over on Thursday to show us the damage. Tader took one look at the toe and felt really bad for her. She could barely walk and the pinky toes was black and blue and about 2 sizes larger than her big toe! Ouch!

Mothers Day Take One

I had my first mothers day yesterday and it was great. It started out with Tader waking up from 2-4am. I guess he couldn't wait to say Happy Mother's Day to me. Tader has been sleeping through the night without a hiccup for a couple weeks so it was a little shocking to get up with him again. The rest of the day went perfectly, I got to spend time with family and even had a little time to myself! Mother's Day should happen every month.

95% Stinky

Well Tader had his 4 month appointment last Thursday with his new Dr. Office. After the whole St. Lukes vs. Mercy hospital catastrophe we switched doctors, not to mention the fact that my son had RSV and his old Dr diagnosed him 3 times with a cold....But I am not bitter. Slade seemed to really enjoys his new doctor....Okay wait....I hate when people say stuff like that. First off the Kid is only 4 months old and would love a serial killer if he smiled at him. Lets rewind, mom really likes the new doctor and needs to say things like "Slade seemed to really enjoy his new doctor" to boost her ego for changing pediatricians in the first 3 months of his life. The visit did go flawless though. When the Dr walked in, I think she took a double take. She saw this 5'2 118lb women (give or take 20-30 lbs) holding this 5'2 118lb baby (give or take 20-30 lbs). She had never met Slade prior to this visit, only me and I think she didn't expect to see me holding the jolly green giant. During the visit, they weighed him and he weighed in at whopping 17lbs 4oz (90%) he was 26 3/4' in height (95%) and 80% for head circumference (don't remember measurements, I just kept thinking "So glad I didn't push that melon out of me").
Tom's version of the appointment (even though he wasn't there) goes like this.
Weight, 90th percentile
Height, 95th percentile
Head Circumference, 80% percentile
and Stinkiness 95th percentile
Priceless!

Come on, you knew it was coming

Okay, Okay...I couldn't be the only one without a blog so instead of getting sleep I am up writing you all stories about what a horrible mother I am. I am reading both my sisters blogs and realizing that they are filled with stories of love, potty traning with sticker and buying motorcross bikes and here I am telling you that I just poored 1/2 bottle of soap in my sons face!!

Oh, I am sure by the end of these blogs you all will be ready to contact DHS but as family and friends I would hope that you will leave that up to all of the strangers that will see Tader through the years. It has been 4 months and no DHS...That is a milestone for Tom and me. Maybe Kara will give us a sticker!

Happy Reading!

Rubber Ducky

Tader had a rough day today...Eversince his stint in the hospital with RSV, Tader decided that he liked all of the attention, cuddle time with Mommy and Daddy and extra hugs and kisses he got in the hospital. Apparently he really enjoys this time at 1am. 2am, 3am and of course don't leave out 4am!! Well Mommy and Daddy are all HUGGED OUT! Slade's new pediatrician told us that he just needs to cry it out in the middle of the night!!! GOOD TIMES let me tell ya! Last night was our first night and he only cried once for 22 minutes...THANK YOU GOD!! That rough night then turned into a rough day. Lack of sleep by the Tader (mommy and daddy slept pretty good for a change) and the fact that he didn't poop turned into to bad naps and a lot of fussiness. Tader was finally ready to calm down and enjoy his bath, a time of day that he really enjoys and loves. I am sure his little brain was saying... uhhhh finally some peace and quiet. NOT SO MUCH!! As I was singing Rubby Ducky your the one, rubby ducky lots of fun, rubby ducky I am awfully fond of you (do do da do) I poored 1/2 a bottle of soap in Taders eyes, nose and mouth. Do you know what you have to do to a kid after you poor 1/2 a bottle of soap in his eyes...Yes it gets worse. You then have to continueously poor water over him - I would say about 1/2 a gallon. Yes, just like a recipe from Rachel Ray, make sure you have equal parts of water to baby shampoo. But first you have to trick the kid into opening his eyes again so you can soak them with water. After the crying stop and MOM did stop crying eventually, he was ready for bed!
